Frequently Asked Questions
How to install artificial grass?
To install Sunshine Coast artificial grass on soil, we recommend following these steps:
- Prepare the foundation: Use a shovel to remove existing grass, roots, mulch, pine needles, and other hindrances that could affect the desired surface. Dig out the existing soil up to 6-7 cm deep.
- Install a weed barrier: A sturdy barrier prevents weed growth on your Sunshine Coast synthetic grass. Roll out the weed barrier across the foundation and cut according to the dimensions. Overlap each section of fabric along the perimeter, securing the barrier with 15-cm galvanised nails or landscape anchors every several metres.
- Lay the aggregate: Lay a 5- to 10-cm aggregate layer composed of gravel or crushed stone. If you’re unsure about the appropriate material for your Sunshine Coast artificial turf, consult a reputable contractor in your area.
- Level, smooth, and compact the aggregate: Level the aggregate with a rake. Use the fork side to spread it evenly and the flat side to smooth it.
- Cut the grass: Place the Sunshine Coast fake turf over the aggregate carefully. Avoid dragging the artificial grass over the surface. A friend’s or a family member’s assistance makes this step easier.Use a sharp utility knife to cut the grass according to your preferred shape, cutting it slightly larger than the installation area to ensure complete surface coverage.
- Seam and secure the edges: Using multiple rolls of Sunshine Coast fake grass requires seaming them together. Lay two rolls at the seams, edge to edge. Lift the edges of the turf and place seaming cloth (artificial grass tape) along the seam to fuse the two sections. Use a hammer to fix the seam in place with landscape anchors or 15-cm galvanised nails. Use the prescribed adhesive to connect the seams.
- Secure the turf: Secure and flatten the turf with 15-cm galvanised nails or landscape anchors around the perimeter. Trim overlapping grass along the edges with a utility knife.
- Spread and brush the infill: Spread infill over the artificial grass’s surface. Use a stiff-bristled broom to make the infill seep into the grass fibres, ensuring a fresh, clean look. Work in the same direction to ensure a consistent appearance.
How to clean artificial grass?
Follow these steps to clean artificial grass:
- Remove debris, such as dead leaves, branches, and rubbish. We recommend using a hard-bristled broom, an electric scrubber, a leaf blower, or a vacuum cleaner for this task. Do not use metal rakes, as they can damage synthetic turf fibres.
- Use a garden hose to rinse your fake grass with water, rinsing the surface thoroughly to remove stubborn dust and dirt.
- For thorough cleaning, use a combination of water and soap or white vinegar. Scrub the surface with a soft-bristle brush, scrubbing it along the direction of the bristles to prevent damage.Next, use a stiff-bristled brush and brush against the direction of the grass to straighten it and refresh the turf’s appearance.
Alternatively, natural rainfall can clean your synthetic grass, relieving you of occasional cleaning.
Where to buy silica sand for artificial grass?
We don’t recommend silica sand for modern, dense synthetic turf due to compaction , shock absorption, and maintenance issues.
How much is artificial grass?
From $18 per square metre.
Can I lay artificial grass on soil?
You can lay artificial grass on soil. However, we recommend replacing the soil with compacted crusher dust to improve drainage.
How long does artificial grass last?
Ezy Decking’s premium artificial grass has a 7 year manufacturer’s warranty.
Does artificial grass get hot?
Artificial grass can get hot, especially during the summer months. However, they cool down easily when doused with cold water. We recommend purchasing denser synthetic turf that stays cooler underneath, ensuring optimal comfort year-round.
Does artificial grass smell when dogs pee?
Dog urine contains ammonia and bacteria, which can develop a strong odour on artificial grass. Good drainage, regular cleaning, and rubber or coated sand infill help minimise odour absorption. Our premium artificial grass sanitiser dissolves dog urine crystals and washes them through the turf.
Can artificial grass be laid on concrete?
You can lay artificial grass on concrete provided you install an adequate drainage slope, allowing rainwater to drain efficiently.
Can dogs dig through artificial grass?
Dogs usually cannot dig through artificial grass, especially with a premium turf, sturdy foundation, secure edges, and rubber or coated sand infill.
On the other hand, they can dig through poorly installed artificial grass with a soft-sub base. For this reason, follow your manufacturer’s guidelines carefully when installing artificial grass. A reputable installer ensures efficient assembly for outdoor areas with dogs.
Can you park a car on artificial grass?
You can park a car on artificial grass. Although the vehicle will flatten the blades, they will spring back to life in warmer climates.
Can you put a fire pit on artificial grass?
We don’t recommend installing a fire pit near artificial grass, as sparks or embers can melt the turf. Ensure you place the fire pit roughly 1 m to 2 m from the fake grass to prevent heat damage. Consider using a fireproof mat or heat shield under the fire pit to protect your synthetic turf.
Can you put artificial grass around a pool?
You can install artificial grass around a swimming pool. However, the turf can become very hot in warm climates. Consider using sprinklers or misting systems to keep the artificial grass cool during summer.
Can you put artificial grass on decking?
We don’t recommend installing artificial grass on decking, as it can cause drainage issues, retain too much heat, and make the turf unstable due to the absence of a secure base. The decking can also rot without adequate dampness and air flow.
Can you put planters on artificial grass?
You can place planters on artificial grass. We recommend using lightweight planters on raised bases, rotating them occasionally to prevent flattening the turf.
Can you put tent pegs in artificial grass?
Tent pegs can leave big holes in synthetic turf. Consider using Ezy Decking’s turf pegs or nails to pitch your tent on artificial grass.
Can you see joins in artificial grass?
Joins are often visible on artificial turf. We recommend minimising them to maximise long-term visual appeal. Our extensive range of synthetic turf, ranging from 2 m to 5 m wide, has no joins, making it appealing to many homeowners from the Sunshine Coast.
Can you trim artificial grass?
You can trim artificial grass from the backing side using a sharp Stanley knife.
Can you vacuum artificial grass?
You can only vacuum dry artificial grass. Please follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for vacuuming, preferably with a garden-specific vacuum cleaner.
Do weeds grow through artificial grass?
Weeds can grow along the synthetic turf joins without joining tape. We recommend using Geofabric underneath fake grass to prevent weed growth and ensure peace of mind.
