It is most popular as a backyard putting green, giving a true, consistent roll for chipping and putting practice, and it is just as well suited to bocce, cricket pitches, multi-sport courts, gyms and play areas where a flat, fast, hard-wearing surface is needed. Unlike landscape grass, the pile is kept short and tightly packed so the ball travels smoothly and the surface stays firm underfoot. The yarn is UV-stabilised for Australian sun and the backing is designed for heavy, repeated use, so it holds up to golf shoes, sports equipment and daily practice. Priced at $30 per m² and sold by the lineal metre in 2m and 4m widths. Speed can be fine-tuned with sand infill: more infill firms the surface and speeds it up. Can I build a putting green myself?Yes. The usual method is a compacted crushed-rock base, levelled and shaped for breaks, with the turf laid over the top, cups set into the base and the edges pegged or glued. Send us your dimensions and we can help with quantities. Is it suitable for the whole backyard?It can be, but it is firmer and shorter than our landscape grasses. For a soft lawn area around the green, our Gold Coast 40mm or Tweed 25mm grasses pair well with it. How much do I need?Measure the length and width of your green, allow extra for shaping, and choose the 2m or 4m width that gives the least wastage. Full rolls are 20 lineal metres.
