Installation guide

The right way to install your composite deck.

Read this before you start cutting boards. Every order ships with a printed install card too — keep it on the job site.

Expansion gaps

From 0°C to 40°C, expansion gaps of 1mm per metre each side are required. Get this wrong and boards crack — get it right and they'll hold for decades. We mark the gap on every install instruction card.

Tools & materials

Cordless drill, mitre or circular saw, spirit level, Ezy-bit, joist hangers, clips, screws. Full kit list comes with every order.

Joist spacing

450mm maximum for Origin, PVC/ASA and Premium Solid (400mm for commercial or diagonal lays). 400mm maximum for Premium Semi-Solid. 300mm for the Origin super-wide 233mm board — no exceptions. Closer for high-load areas like pool surrounds and stair landings.

Ground-level timber frame (10 steps)

Standard install on prepared ground. Pads, bearers at 1.8m centres, joists at the spacing above, fascia, then boards. Detailed walk-through ships with every order.

Concrete or tiled surface (7 steps)

Adjustable pedestals lift the deck above the existing surface — no demolition, no concrete cutting. Perfect for outdoor entertaining areas and rooftop terraces.

Dirt ground (9 steps)

Galvanised stirrups + bearers raise the frame off the ground. Allows airflow underneath, prevents moisture damage. Stirrups come pre-coated.
